Simply put, Cosmetic Dentistry is any dental procedure that improves your smile- such as whitening treatments that brighten stained or discolored teeth, to procedures such as realigning, repairing and reshaping of chipped or broken teeth with the aid of Crowns or Veneers. A Smile Lift can give a person a whole new outlook. Thanks to the advances in dental techniques and materials, these treatments can be accomplished quickly and are minimally invasive, resulting in a smile you can't help but share with others around you.
Do it yourself smile analysis
Recognizing what you don't like can help Dr. Khoury determine which procedures will work best on your case to reach the best results. Here are some general areas to consider.
Shape
Your smile, eyes, lips, and nose, are all facial features. Ideally, there should be a sense of proportion between them. Take a look at the shape of your teeth. Now look at the rest of your facial features. Do they seem to compliment each other? Is there a sense of balance? Small, tiny teeth, for example, may look out of proportion if your eyes, lips and nose are large. Conversely, large teeth may complicate an under developed upper jaw creating an unsightly smile.
Position
Rotated and misshaped teeth inhibit light reflection and create a dark spot in a smile. Are your teeth on the same plane? Are they smoothly aligned on an arc?
Length
Tooth length is an indication of age. How? Well compare the length of your two front upper teeth (the centrals) with that of the teeth on either side of them (the laterals). Laterals are shorter when you are young and by age 40, laterals and centrals can be the same length, due to wear and abrasion from chewing and grinding. Changing the length of your teeth can help make your smile look younger.
Color
Stains, darkenings, and discolorations that have taken place overtime can detract from the brilliance of any smile. check the color of your teeth. In general, tooth color should be uniform accross your teeth. That does not mean they are supposed to be solid white, however- that would look very artificial in my opinion. Teeth are typically darker at the gum line and more transparent at the biting (incisal) edges of the tooth. They also darken naturally with age, from natural causes to external factors such as coffee, nicotine, colored sodas, red wine, tea, and many more. Brightening your teeth can make them look younger and more attractive.
Because of the above 4 factors so many diferent smile designs are possible. This allows us to create a unique smile design for every person. A sample of some different smile designs are as follows:
